UncategorizedWoollen Care 101: All’s Wool That Ends Wool
winter wear

It’s that time of the year when it’s woollen sweater weather all around! From your favourite sweaters and cardigans to your elegant pashmina shawl, the woollens are here to rule the season. That’s why it’s essential to take good care of them.

Woollen wear is very delicate and that’s why it is important to take adequate care to ensure it lasts a long time, doesn’t lose shape or colour and pretty much looks as good as new.

So, how do you go about that? We’ve got all the best tips to take care of your woollen clothing!

1) How to wash woollen clothes

It’s always best to hand wash your woollen clothes because they are gentle. A few things you want to remember are:

  • Turn the clothes inside out, so they are not directly in the line of action
  • Use a pH-neutral soap or mild detergent that’s gentle on the fabric and won’t mess with the natural fibres
  • Make sure to use water that’s not over 30℃
  • Try soaking them for up to 10 minutes before rinsing them
  • For those stubborn stains, you could use a soap bar directly on the spot before the rinse
  • Remember that chlorine or oxygen bleach should never be used on woollens as it makes the fibres weak and reduces the lifespan of your favourite woollies.

2) After-wash care

Now that you’ve got the washing out of the way, the next step is to dry them in an efficient manner. Woollen garments should be dried flat, not hung using hangers or cloth pegs. Another viable method for keeping your woollens clean is to air them and spot-clean them.

They could also be dry-cleaned or washed as per the instruction label. Dry cleaning them once a season is usually enough to keep them in pristine shape.

3) Maintaining woollens

The tough part is usually maintaining your fluffy woollen outfits. One great way to help in maintaining them is investing in a lint roller, fuzz remover, or cashmere brush. Woollen fabrics accumulate a lot of dust and are also vulnerable to moths, so brushing them after every wear is the best way to keep them clean. Run them under a brush before you wash them and you’ll be doing them (and yourself) a solid!

4) Storing them

The last step that you’ve got to check off your list is storing your woollen outfits correctly. That part is probably just as important as the cleaning bit. While they do their bit in keeping you all warm and cosy during cold nights, they are also vulnerable to moth attacks.

That’s where folding and storing them neatly comes into the picture. You should also avoid hanging them in your cupboards because that can cause them to string and wrinkle around the shoulders. Storing them carefully will make sure they stay ready for when you next need them!
