Why I Buy My Lingerie Online

 

I’ve bought all my lingerie and sleepwear online for a couple of years now. I do it because:
– I’d rather meet up with my girlfriends for drinks and chatter after a hard day’s work.
– I can’t drag myself to a mall specifically for lingerie shopping… Mall visits are for movies, brunches and friends.
– And finally, my neighbourhood shop, while reliable, is filled with auntie-jis dragging their children along, and a mostly male staff.

It all started with an NRI cousin telling me how she shopped for her lingerie online all the time. I pooh-pooh’ed her saying, “Dude, you’re built like a stick, with mosquito bites for breasts. You can buy bras online all you want! It’s not as easy for others!”

But she assured me no, that online stores were in fact, a haven for women with larger bust sizes. And there began my odyssey… I’m going to let you in on my learning curve, in the hope of inspiring you to give online lingerie buys a try…

The test lies in buying the right bra. Since we all come in wildly different sizes and shapes, bras are possibly the most fiddly and customised buys you can make as a woman. Sure, I knew my bra size, through salespeople’s guesstimates, and my own trial and error. But I decided if I was going to do this, I’d do it right.

So, at home, on a quiet afternoon, I dressed comfortably and armed myself with a measuring tape, then followed the simple self-measuring guide available on the site. After that, it was on to browsing. I figured I’d ease into the experience with a simple style… I decided my first buy would be a T-shirt bra. I got to the site, clicked on ‘Bras’, homed in on ‘T-shirt bras’, and that’s it… I was hooked.

For starters, the selection of styles that comes with buying lingerie online can NEVER be matched by a brick and mortar store. EVER. I spent at least 20 minutes applying filters in various combinations to see the innumerable options the site presented me with (I dare you to resist)!

Finally, I selected one – a grey, full-coverage, underwired T-Shirt bra, I added to my cart, and the deed was done! I had bought my first bra online. The price seemed a bit incredible at first; but then I realised it’s something I would spend at least 8-10 hours in daily. And I have big breasts, so I’m very finicky about fit and lift, and this would be more like an investment!

Finding The Right Fit For You
Price is not my DECIDING factor, fit is… This bra had to meet a long list of expectations if it was going to swing me over to online lingerie shopping! The package finally arrived 5 days later and I dug into it eagerly…

You’ll Love How It Feels
I wore it the next day to office, to really put it through its paces, and it fared a lot better than the more expensive, store-bought ones I’d worn over the years. Since then, I’ve bought at least ten to twelve bras online on Zivame, sometimes as matching sets. But then, underwear buying is easier to tackle online and sizing/fit is usually not an issue.

To be fair, a bra size is not gospel, it’s a guide – and your size will vary, up or down depending on the style.
